DNA Policy & Information

What is a DNA?

A DNA or Did Not Attend is when a patient fails to notify the practice that they are no longer able to attend their appointment and instead does not turn up or cancels so late that it is now impossible to fill. This wastes vital clinical time as now this appointment can’t be filled by another patient that requires treatment.

There was roughly 270 missed appointments throughout 2024. By increasing awareness around DNA’s and enforcing our DNA policy, we hope that it will lessen the amount of clinical time wasted and educate patients on the consequences of missed appointments.

DNA Policy

1st DNA

You will receive a warning message via text explaining if you continue to miss appointments it could result in you being removed from the practice list. A code will also be added to your medical record to highlight the missed appointment.

2nd DNA

If you DNA within 12 months of you receiving the first DNA text, a final warning letter will be sent.

3rd DNA

If you DNA within 12 months of receiving your final warning letter, you will be removed from the practice list due to a breakdown of GP and patient relations.

If you can’t attend your appointment

Please contact the practice to cancel your appointment, giving appropriate notice.

We understand that there are special circumstances that may result in a DNA. Please inform the reception team if this applies to you and the practice will take this into consideration.
